... Azerbaijan (formerly part of the Soviet Union) is a small country in the Transcaucasia region bordering Georgia, Armenia, Iran, and Russia. Azerbaijan straddles the divide between Europe and Central Asia with the Caucasus Mountains in the west and a long running coastline along the Caspian Sea in the east. Azerbaijan also governs the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a small exclave southwest of Armenia. Historical petroglyphs found throughout Azerbaijan date human inhabitance as far back as 10,000 BC. Oil, natural gas, mineral resources, and agriculture are strong economic industries within the country. The diversity of climates within the country allow for a variety of tourism options from coastal beaches to skiing in the mountains.

... Baku is the capital and largest city in Azerbaijan. Situated along the Caspian coast, Baku is the center of commerce and main port city in the country. Baku is estimated to have originated in the first century AD and still has a large medieval walled city center that is protected under UNESCO heritage status.
